Itinerary
Embark on a 10 days Ethiopia adventure combining the Danakil Depression and Omo Valley. Trek to the Erta Ale Volcano, explore the colorful Dallol sulfur fields, and walk across vast salt flats. Then journey south to meet the Mursi, Hamer, and Karo tribes, experience vibrant cultural traditions, and explore tribal markets. A perfect blend of geology, culture, and adventure.
Day 01 :
Arrival in Addis Ababa & Flight to Semera
Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD), where our representative will meet you and transfer you to a domestic terminal for your flight to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Upon arrival in Semera, you'll be transferred to your accommodation for the night.
Day 02 :
Exploring the Colorful Dallol Depression
Today, your Danakil adventure begins! We'll embark on an early morning excursion to Dallol, a unique and surreal volcanic landscape. Witness the vibrant yellow and green salt formations, hot springs, and the otherworldly sulfur lakes. This is one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth, offering incredible photo opportunities.
Day 03 :
Salt Mountains & Lake Assale's Salt Extraction
Discover the vast salt mountains and witness the traditional Afar people extracting salt from Lake Assale, the lowest point in Africa. Observe the camel caravans transporting the precious salt across the Danakil plains. You'll gain insights into the hard work and unique lifestyle of the Afar community.
Day 04 :
Erta Ale Volcano's Lava Lake ( Optional Hike )
( Optional, requires good fitness ) overnight trek to Erta Ale volcano, one of the world's few continuously active volcanoes with a persistent lava lake. Witness the mesmerizing spectacle of molten lava glowing against the night sky. (Note: This hike is challenging and requires a good level of fitness. An alternative, more relaxed option can be arranged if preferred). Return to Semera in the late morning.
Day 05 :
Return Flight to Addis Ababa & Connection to Arba Minch
After breakfast, you'll be transferred to Semera airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, you'll connect to your flight to Arbaminch, the starting point for your Omo Valley exploration. Transfer to your hotel in Arbaminch and enjoy some rest.
Day 06 :
Lake Chamo Boat Trip & Dorze Village Culture
Begin your Omo Valley journey with a boat trip on Lake Chamo. Look out for crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of water birds. In the afternoon, visit the fascinating Dorze people in their unique beehive-shaped houses. Learn about their weaving traditions and cultural practices.
Day 07 :
Konso Cultural Landscape & Colorful Key Afer Market
Today, we drive to Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique terraced landscapes, traditional villages, and carved wooden totems. Explore a Konso village and learn about their intricate social structure and customs. In the afternoon, experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Key Afer market, where several Omo Valley tribes, including the Benna and Ari,
Day 08 :
Hamer and Dassanech Encounters around Turmi
Travel to Turmi, the heartland of the Hamer tribe. If market day coincides with your visit, you'll witness the colorful Hamer market. We'll also take an excursion to visit a Dassanech village near the Omo River, offering a glimpse into their distinct traditions and way of life. The Hamer are known for their unique hairstyles, body scarification, and bull-jumping ceremony if the timing is right, we might have the opportunity to witness this.
Day 09 :
Karo and Nyangatom Tribes & Drive to Jinka
Today, we'll visit the Karo tribe, renowned for their intricate body painting and scarification, often related to significant events in their lives. We may also have the opportunity to visit a Nyangatom village (depending on accessibility and local conditions), known for their pastoralist lifestyle. In the afternoon, we'll drive to Jinka, the main town near Mago National Park
Day 10 :
Mago National Park & Departure Flight from Jinka
Embark on a morning excursion into Mago National Park, known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, kudus, and various bird species. We will focus on wildlife viewing and enjoying the natural landscapes. After our park visit, we'll return to Jinka for your flight back to Addis Ababa, where your tour concludes. You can then connect to your international flight or continue your Ethiopian adventures.
